En apoyo a estos esfuerzos, la OIT y la CEPAL desarrollaron el Modelo de Identificación del Riesgo de Trabajo Infantil (MIRTI), implementado ya en 11 países de la región. El MIRTI permite orientar políticas preventivas mediante mapas locales de riesgo construidos a partir de datos estadísticos nacionales validados por cada país. En este marco, los Ministerios de Trabajo de Panamá, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica y Perú han decidido implementar el MIRTI y han solicitado asistencia técnica para validar la metodología aplicada, ajustar resultados y elaborar mapas nacionales y locales de riesgo en coordinación con sus institutos nacionales de estadística.
